South Jordan History

South Jordan was first settled in 1857. The nearby Jordan River, with the aid of irrigation trenches provided a much needed source of water so that crops could be grown. It also provided the power to drive the flour mills, the first of which was built in 1985.

The population from 1960 to 1980 grew exponentially going from 1,354 to 13,106. Thus the once agricultural community has developed into a active Salt Lake residential housing community.

South Jordan Neighborhoods

South Jordan is comprised of a mixture of older and newer communities. One of the many new communities currently being built is called Daybreak and will be the largest development in Utah, covering 4,126 aches.
